Paint Correction

Paint correction is a term used by both professional car detailers and car cleaning enthusiasts to describe the process of restoring and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle. This is achieved through the elimination, not just covering up or hiding, of surface imperfections that dull, oxidize, or haze the surface by reflecting light off in various directions. These imperfections include things like swirl marks, fine scratches, bird dropping etching, acid rain etching, holograms, buffer trails, and random isolated deep scratches (or RIDS).

Paint correction is a very labor intensive process and is usually the most time consuming part of the car detailing process. It is important to distinguish between paintwork that has been truly corrected and paintwork that has been treated with products that are designed to mask and fill surface imperfections. Some scratches or imperfections may actually be too deep or severe to safely remove without risking removing too much surface paint or clear coat, and so special techniques are used to minimize and make them far less apparent in direct light.

The paint correction stage is the most important step in preparing your vehicle for the coating process. If not done correctly the defects will show through the coating and diminish the overall shine of the vehicle. We also offer paint chip repair, paintless dent removal, and even painting services to allow you to achieve the look you want. Restoring your paint's finish can add resale value to any classic, modern or daily driven vehicle.

This level of paint correction utilizes just one stage of machine polishing. While not considered a “perfection detail” given the single stage process, a big transformation in the condition of the paint can be achieved. Depending on the hardness of the paint we can usually remove 30-70% of all swirls, haze, and light defects. There are a lot of variables that dictate how much correction can safely be achieved in a one step process, and we approach each car and paint system accordingly to maximize results for the given budget or goals. There is no one system or product that works for all vehicles, and we are well-versed in all of the modern polishes and techniques so that each vehicle can receive the best course of treatment. Many of our coating packages include a single stage correction. But if you are just looking to get an exterior detail with a single stage correction pricing starts at $350.00 and normally takes 6 or more hours to perform.

With a multi-stage paint correction, you’re significantly improving the finish by removing all of the swirls, and all but the heaviest of scratches and defects. The paint type and condition will also dictate the level of correction, but typically this process on most cars will get rid of 80-100% of all defects. And at this level of correction, you’re getting very close to that of a brand new vehicle! Pricing for multi-stage paint correction starts at $375.00 for most of our coating packages and it normally takes anywhere from 1 to 2 days to perform. Given the differences in paint types, condition, and size of vehicles, the rate for the multi-stage paint correction varies. Wet / Color sanding removes orange peel, and other various paint defects such as paint shrinkage and dirt nibs. This is a lengthy 5 to 7 step process and should only be done on show cars,  exotics, or cars with severe orange peel or other defects that won't come out with a multi-stage paint correction. On average you can expect it to take a week or more for this service to be completed. If you are interested feel free to stop by for a free consultation.
